The finest Brazilian beaches make for a fabulous Honeymoon.
With 7000km of coastline Brazil is a beach lover’s paradise, but how to find the best ones? Better ask inside experts and luxury honeymoon specialists, Dehouche.
Dehouche are based in Rio, but a passion for travel (coupled with a love of lying on the beach) means their knowledge is by no means restricted to this one city.
Nevertheless, Ipanema beach in Rio is not deemed one of the world’s most famous beaches without good reason. Watching the sunset over the imposing ‘Dois Irmãos’ mountain from Arpoador rock at the opposing end of this six kilometre stretch of golden sand, is an experience difficult to surpass.
The beach is marked by ‘postos’ (or posts) and each post is characterised by those that frequent it. Post 7, known for its impressive waves, is for both surf lovers and lovers of surfers; the section in front of ‘Farme de Amoedo’ street, near post 8 is the home of Rio’s gay community and post 9 is where the beautiful Cariocas go to strut their lithe toned bodies in the latest designer swimwear. If you’re in doubt as to which post to head to, set a few days aside to trying each one; after all, you can’t expect Dehouche to do all the difficult research for you.
Beautiful as the beaches of Rio may be, on a sunny day you’ll find yourself competing for space to put your sarong down; if you’re on honeymoon and looking for less company and more tranquillity, Dehouche can tell you where to find it. Venture a little south of Rio and you’ll find the breathtakingly beautiful ‘Prainha’ (or ‘little beach’) backed by a nature reserve and acres of unspoilt Atlantic rainforest. Though little served by public transport, this beach is known to Cariocas and can still get quite lively at weekends.
If you’re looking a truly deserted beach, you’ll need to head further afield. The tropical paradise of ‘Ilha Grande’, about four hours from the city of Rio boasts what is possibly one of the most spectacular beaches in Brazil, the deserted white sand ‘Lopes Mendes’. Accessible only by boat or helicopter followed by a trek through the jungle, you can be sure of escaping the masses. The sparkling clear waters will lure you in immediately, but beware of the strong currents.
Venturing outside the state of Rio, the North East of Brazil is synonymous with laid back beach life, so let Dehouche point you in the right direction and you’ll be sure to find your own piece of paradise.
Relaxation is an art in itself at Praia do Espelho. If you’re looking to unwind on your honeymoon, this is quite possibly the ultimate destination. Stay in the nearby town of Trancoso and ask Dehouche to help you rent a buggy to access the beach easily. Spread along the sand are beach huts of a different class altogether. Lie back on one of the many comfortable loungers covered with multicoloured cushions and let your refreshments come to you. Once settled, perhaps only the calm green waters lapping nearby may tempt you to move again.
Heading further north, the access to ‘Praia do Sancho’ on the island of Fernando de Noronha may not be easy, but the reward on arrival is compensation in itself. The steep climb down to the beach from the cliffs above affords stunning views of the beach below, but is not recommended for those who suffer from vertigo. If heights make you giddy, take a boat instead. Owing to the crystalline waters, it’s also an excellent place to go diving. Ask Dehouche to help you organise an excursion in their private yacht to access the best perfectly secluded beach worthy of the finest Brazilian Honeymoon .
Let Dehouche arrange your luxury boutique hotel and enjoy a whole host of insider tips on where to truly escape from it all on your honeymoon.
